Clearcutting in the Berkeley and Oakland Hills

When we hear about clear cut forests, we probably think about logging happening somewhere 200 miles northeast of here, but sometimes it occurs closer to home. In fact, the largest San Francisco Bay Area forest clearcut in 100 years is planning to begin in August. An estimated 450,000 healthy, mature trees in the hills of Oakland and Berkeley hills will be clearcut with no plans for reforestation.
